Good Grief in Grey

I have always been confused about the correct spelling of gray/grey. I’ve seen both and yet have resisted doing the research to answer which one I should use. The resistance comes because I suspect gray is more correct, but I like grey better.

It turns out, either one is correct! Gray is more common in the U.S. and grey is more common pretty much everywhere else. (Wow, what a surprise.)

So, I think I’ll go with grey. Which one do you prefer?

Wow thanks, I was never sure which one to use and I was also too lazy to google.

I always used to write “gray” — but now the LITTLE RED LINE appears under it… insinuating that I could keep “gray”, but I’d be wrong to do so. And so, now I am grey.

Interesting. I tried gray and grey in Word and neither was flagged as misspelled. But, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen one or the other with squiggly red lines under them. Hmm…

My preference is also grey. My biggest problem is being related to a family of Grays. Christmas cards are a challenge!

Ooh, I actually thought about Gray as a last name and wondered if that would be confusing. And, of course, Grey also is a last name. Sheesh.

I encounter the gray/grey dilemma every single time I try to use it. It’s very frustrating. We should eliminate one! An astute observation!
