One year before the Prince came of age, the King sent out his best men to the four directions, each to return with two maidens, beautiful and of noble birth.
When the eight potential Princesses were assembled, they were given the best tutors, the finest gowns, and all the luxuries of royalty.
After eleven months, the King was appalled to find all eight maids a-milking the situation for all it was worth. In a rage, he had six put to the sword.
The remaining two were the least indulgent, but the King knew a Princess must also be strong. So each was given a sword and put in the arena and told to prove themselves.
After long minutes of fighting, one stood, bloodied, over the body of her foe. She dropped her sword and proudly bowed to the Prince. “Princess Arielle, at your service.”
